Quick Start Tutorial: Publishing the Site

Once the web content has been generated, it can be published to your web site using B*Gallery's built in FTP functionality. Of course, you don't have to use B*Gallery to publish your site, but you will see how easy it is during this final step of the tutorial. Also keep in mind that B*Gallery also has an option to generate and publish the gallery in a single step.

1. Select the "Publish the site" link on the left side of the Publish Workspace.

2. Various fields are displayed in the "Remote Site Details" area that must be completed properly prior to publishing. Below are details about each field.

Remote Host Name This should be provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP.)
Port Almost always equal to "21."
Connect Mode Try passive, if this fails, use active.
User Name Should be provided by your ISP.
Password Should be provided by your ISP.
Remote Gallery Home The directory on the FTP server which represents the directory on your website which will contain the gallery.
Web Address Optional field that represents the exact URL used to access the published gallery with a browser. Used for previewing purposes.

3. Click "Test Connection" to test the validity of the values you provided above. Assuming everything is OK, a dialog is shown saying that the test was successful. If you receive an error, there may be a problem with one or more of the values you entered. You may need to consult with your ISP for assistance if you continue to have difficulty.

4. Click the "Publish" button at the bottom of the screen.

4. The Publish Wizard is shown. The first page of the wizard allows you to choose which albums should be published to the remote site. Albums are pre-selected if they do not currently exist on the server. As a result, we only need to click "Next."

5. Select the "View gallery on exit" check box. Wait for B*Gallery to finish processing and click "Finish." The Publish Wizard is hidden, and a web browser is opened that displays your gallery. If you provided a value for the "Web Address" field, the remote site is displayed. Otherwise, the local version of the site is displayed.

Congratulations, you have completed the Quick Start tutorial. We encourage you to spend additional time investigating the expansive capabilities of B*Gallery. All of the application's functions are described inside the help system that is accessible from the application menu under "Help > Help Topics."
